Steve Lawson is an internationally regarded solo bassist, composer and teacher. He’s been teaching bass for almost two decades, and has lectured in Universities and music schools throughout Europe and the US, including Salford University, The Academy Of Contemporary Music, Perth College, Duquesne University (Pittsburgh), the Musicians Institute, The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Den Rytmiske Højskole in Denmark, The Academy of Music And Sound (in Exeter, Southampton, Birmingham, Swindon and Edinburgh) and has taught degree, masters and PHD students from Middlesex, York, Thames Valley and Brunel Universities.
His private students have included members of bands from across the musical map, from solo artists to death metal bassists, punk players to avant garde improvisors.
As a solo artist he has peformed through the UK, Europe and the US, at venues ranging from the Royal Albert Hall to the Knitting Factory in LA, but now focuses most of his gigging attention on house concerts, given that they’re more fun, more creative and better paid than any of the big gigs he ever did.
